Chéticamp is an unincorporated town located on the Cabot Trail along the west coast of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. It serves as a local service centre for the surrounding area. As of the 2006 census, the town had a population of 3,039 people.
An Acadian Community
A majority of Chéticamp’s residents are Acadians, making it one of the more distinctive Francophone communities in the region. Together with its smaller neighbouring community of Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, Chéticamp forms the largest Francophone enclave on Cape Breton Island. The two communities together represent a significant presence of French-speaking Acadians in an area where English is otherwise the dominant language.
