D’Escousse is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located on the north-eastern side of Isle Madame. The community is situated along Nova Scotia Route 320, which runs through this part of the island.
Religious History
D’Escousse has had a church since 1845, giving the community a long history of local religious life. The original church stood for over a century before it was destroyed in a fire on July 20, 1954. Following the loss of the building, a new church was rebuilt the following year in 1955.
The Church in Recent Years
The rebuilt church served the community for several decades after its construction in 1955. In 2014, the building was closed for church services, marking the end of its role as an active place of worship in D’Escousse.
