Sheet Harbour Map

Sheet Harbour is a rural community located in the eastern reaches of the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. It sits approximately 117 km northeast of the central urban area of the municipality, which is concentrated around Downtown Halifax and Dartmouth. The community has a population of about 800, while its broader census tract, covering sizable amounts of surrounding land, recorded a population of 3,478 in the 2011 Census.

Location and Access

The community is positioned along the Marine Drive scenic route on Trunk 7, at its junctions with Route 224 and Route 374. Sheet Harbour surrounds the branched harbour from which it takes its name. Two rivers flow through the community: the West River, which empties into the Northwest Arm of the harbour, and the East River, which flows into the Northeast Arm. The coastline of the community is heavily eroded, and the surrounding region contains an abundance of lakes.

Climate and Geography

Sheet Harbour and the region around it experience a humid continental climate, consistent with the majority of Nova Scotia. The ocean plays a significant role in moderating local temperatures. The combination of a heavily eroded coastline, numerous lakes, and two river systems gives the area a varied and distinctive natural landscape that is characteristic of this part of the province.
