Tantallon Map

Tantallon is an exurban community located within Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. Situated approximately 32 km (20 mi) from Downtown Halifax, it occupies a stretch of land running roughly three kilometres along Route 333, extending from about two kilometres south of Trunk 3 to just south of Longards Road. The community also includes Whynachts Point and Sheeps Head Island.

Location and Boundaries

Tantallon is bordered to the north by Upper Tantallon and to the south by Glen Haven. Its boundaries along Route 333 run from just north of Ballfield Road southward, defining a clearly outlined stretch of the municipality. The community’s position along this corridor places it within the broader network of communities that make up the western reaches of Halifax Regional Municipality.

As an exurban community, Tantallon sits at a remove from the dense urban core of Halifax, while still falling within the administrative boundaries of Halifax Regional Municipality. Its roughly 32-kilometre distance from Downtown Halifax reflects the exurban nature of the settlement, occupying a zone between the suburban fringes of the city and the more rural communities further along the South Shore corridor.

Geographic Features

The community’s geography includes notable coastal features, among them Whynachts Point and Sheeps Head Island, which form part of Tantallon’s defined extent. These features, combined with the community’s situation along Route 333, contribute to its distinct character within the western portion of Halifax Regional Municipality.
