Moser River Map

Moser River is a rural community on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, located within the Halifax Regional Municipality. It sits along the Marine Drive on Trunk 7, 32 km east of Sheet Harbour and 51 km southwest of Sherbrooke. The community is situated along the shores of Necum Teuch Harbour, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, and lies at the mouth of the Moser River. In the Mi’kmaq language, the area was known as Noogoomkeak, which translates to “soft sand place.”

History and Settlement

The community takes its name from Henry Moser, the son of Jacob Moser, who settled the area in the early 1800s. Education came to the community in 1905 with the construction of its first school. A second school, Moser River Consolidated School, was built in 1957. Due to a very low student population, the school closed in 2015. Students in the community and surrounding area are now served at all grade levels by Marine Drive Academy in Sheet Harbour.

Community Features

Moser River is a small community with a modest collection of local amenities. Near the site of the former school, there is a small seaside park. The community also has a post office and a convenience store. Together, these features reflect the quiet, close-knit character of this rural Eastern Shore settlement along the shores of Necum Teuch Harbour.
